HTC has released an official press statement which says that all unlocked and European HTC Desire users will receive Android 2.2 OTA by the end of the week. So if you’re from Europe and you bought an unlocked HTC Desire then you will see yourself welcoming Android 2.2 Froyo as of today.

According to HTC, the Android 2.2 Froyo package for the European Desire comes with 720p HD video recording capability, App Share widget which allows users to recommend apps to their friends via email etc, Caller ID features, better support for keyboard in multiple languages, and HTC Sync, an option which allows users to sync their device with their personal iTunes library.

The Android 2.2 Froyo build for the HTC Desire will be huge so you’d better have an unlimited data plan or a WiFi connection nearby. HTC didn’t forget about Desire users who are locked on a carrier and said that the update will be deployed in the following weeks.

Well, I guess it was worth waiting for the official Android 2.2 build, right? This doesn’t mean that you don’t have to thank udK_dev for providing an unofficial but decent Android 2.2 package a couple of weeks ago.
